F'real F'real: Self Love man
Hey all!
F'real F'real is the segment of my blog where I'll be talking about issues that matter to me.
First up; self love ♥
Now I'm sure you're all tired of hearing people tell you to love your body the way it is. That's not what this post is about.
I'm here to talk to you guys about putting yourself first mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. I feel like that's the kind of love we forget to give ourselves most. Trust me, I'm all about being body positive, but what about being whole self positive. I'm talking about taking the time to forget about what others want for you, and from you, and focusing your energy on what you want for and from yourself.
Sometimes, we aren't sure so sure what it is we want or need, so we rely on others opinions to guide us. Now I'm not saying there's anything wrong with this. I'm always asking my friends and family for advice; the problem is when we lose ourselves in their advice. It's easy to kind of let others decide the way for you. It's easy for you to say "just tell me what to do". The hardest thing in the world is to really, truly, hear yourself. To dig deep and figure out what your heart and mind truly desire. Sometimes, we may think of ourselves as selfish for wanting and doing the things we want and want to do. I'm here to tell you, it's okay to be selfish in this regard. It's okay for you to get to know yourself, what you want and need, and making yourself your number one priority, no matter what anyone else has to say. But, being self-aware is definitely more of a journey than a destination. We're all really just trying to figure it out.
Below, I'll list some of my favorite tips for taking care of yourself FIRST.
1. Set aside some time to hang out with yourself.
Whether its snuggling up with a good book, going for a bike ride or run, taking a warm bubble bath with your fave Lush bathbomb, or making art; we've all got our favorite hobbies and past times. Set aside some time at least 2 days a week to indulge and relax.
2. Write things down! Make lists!
Coming to a decision can sometimes be hard. You want to make sure you chose the right thing. When faced with a tough decision, I always like to write things down. I like to just get all of the "what if's" out of my head and on to a piece of paper, so I can see my options more clearly. Writing things out can help you make sense of all the thoughts running around your head. It can also be very theraputic.
3. Talk it out.
One of the most detrimental things we do to ourselves is keep our feelings inside. Now, if your an (overly) emotional person like myself, it may be okay to take a step back before speaking your mind, but for the most part, we as a whole, tend to lock away our feelings and emotions instead of reaching out for someone to talk to. You'd be surprised how much better you'll feel about any situation once you've talked about it. Whether it be thru journaling, blogging, talking with your best friend, or even seeing a professional for more serious issues; talking things out will leave you feeling lighter and less stressed.
4. Do what YOU want to do
Has you ever been called a People Pleaser? Many people are. More than just going with the flow, People Pleasers go out of their way to make other people happy, sometimes at their own expense. These beautiful, wonderful lovely people will go above and beyond to make sure everything is running smoothly. They're the kinds of people who make no noise. They are also sometimes the ones who get taken advantage of. I'm all for trying to make the people around you happy; but I do not believe in putting aside your feelings, wants, and desires to make that happen. I'm all about compromise, but it should never be one-sided.
5. Do what you LOVE
As kids, we're asked "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Some of us have pretty standard answers - doctors, lawyers, teachers, parents; while others have answers like ballerina, astronaut, artist, pop star, etc. If you're one of the few people that can have your passion be your main source of income, consider yourself lucky. A lot of the time, as sad as it is, we realize our dreams just aren't going to make us a ton of money... at least not right away. And that's okay. It's important to realize that just because the job you end up having as an adult, isn't the job you dreamed of as a kid, that doesn't mean you should give up that dream! Keep doing what you love; what you have a passion for. I promise you, your soul and your inner child will thank you.
In the end, it's not about the way you do, just that you do take the time to take care of yourself. Body and soul.
Keep smiling and stay SUNNY!
