I Cut Bags Into My Curly Hair - Here Are The Results!

It's been trending all over the internet for the better part of this year - bangs for curly hair!

Our elementary school selves are cringing, but curly bangs are in and I am so here for it.
I myself have super curly hair. Shirley Temple ringlets with a few wavy strands here & there. I've straightened, dyed, and practically fried my hair doing everything to revamp my look, but bangs were always out of the question.

After reading articles on Refinery29, Cosmopolitan.com, and probably a million other places, I decided to give this trend a try. I stood in front the mirror for about an hour trying to sike myself up. Cutting bangs into curly hair is scary enough at a salon, but I was chancing doing it myself. I've been cutting my own hair for years after one too many mishaps at Super Cuts, but cutting bangs was a whole different ballgame.

I started off by watching every tutorial I could find on Youtube. Most of them pretty much gave the same advice - cut in pieces (cutting each curl individually instead of in a big clump), cut the hair while dry as wetting the hair weighs it down and makes it appear longer (definitely not what you want when cutting bangs), and to cut them in layers, parting the hair into 2 or 3 sections from the hairline to where you want your bangs to start.

Before Bangs

A few snips in and I was already preparing for the worst, thinking about how many different outfits you can put together with a hat or head scarf. I almost wanted to close my eyes until I was done but I decided I was dangerous enough with a pair of scissors when my eyes were open so I proceeded with the cutting.

When it was all done, I fluffed up the top of my head by pulling on a few strands to separate the bigger curls and took a final look in the mirror.

I was instantly OBSESSED! The cute little curls framed my face and made me look way cooler than I could've anticipated. The new do gave me this 70's-80's rocker hippie chick look that was giving me a Joan Jett with curls vibe. I seriously could not have asked for a better result!

After Bangs!

If you're sporting curls and have been thinking about getting some bangs, I highly recommend it! It's a great way to change up your look without damaging your hair or altering your curls. If you're afraid to take the leap, don't be. It's just hair - the best thing about it is it'll always grow back.
